Did you know?

“Jingle Bells” was the first song to be broadcast from outer space. Ten days before Christmas in 1965, astronauts Walter M. “Wally” Schirra, Jr. and Thomas P. Stafford aboard the Gemini VI told mission control they spotted some kind of UFO with its pilot wearing a red suit. The ground controllers then heard “Jingle Bells” being played over the transmission by a Hohner Little Lady harmonica with the tinkling of mini sleigh bells in the background. These space pioneer instruments are now displayed in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
