Donald C. Cantwell Receives Mentor Award

Donald C. Cantwell is 2012 Recipient of the Herbert L. & Jean Schultz Mentor Ideal Award.  At the ACB Awards Banquet in Poughkeepsie, New York, Donald Cantwell of Barneveld, New York became the 22nd recipient of the Herbert L. & Jean Schultz Mentor Ideal Award.  A graduate of Syracuse University and the United States Navy School of Music, Mr. Cantwell achieved outstanding success as the Director of Instrumental Music in the Whitesboro Central School District, Whitesboro, NY from 1952-82.  Over the years he mentored many of this country’s outstanding instrumentalists.  A fine clarinetist in his own right, Cantwell studied with Robert Willaman of the Sousa Band, Ray Still of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and William Hart of the Eastman School of Music.  He has performed with the likes of Leonard B. Smith, Ed Shaughnessy, John LaPorta and Don McCathran.
